A Day with a Career Environmentalist

Shekeilah, Anniellie, Project Leader of Baguio Regreening Movement Madam Forester Muyano, and Nicklaus

Be vigilant.  This was the message of Baguio Re-greening Movement Project leader Eufronia P. Muyano.  Forester Muyano emphasized the need for vigilance of the students against people who pollutes & destroy the environment.  These includes throwing garbage in the river, irresponsible cutting of trees, and vandalism.  If students see this acts being committed, they should call the attention of the violator or report it to proper authorities.  As part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs. Muyano encouraged the students to take part in caring for the environment.  She reiterated that the government cannot solve the these problems alone.
Illegal logging is one of the rampant problems that her department is trying to stop.  She stated that the growth of population demand a greater need for wood thus people cut trees irresponsibly.  According to her, it would be better that if one tree is cut, the person who cuts it should plant 50 trees as a replacement.  She also mentioned that we have a lot of laws and yet the implementation is not serious.  Ideas such as Baptismal Tree Certificate for every newborn baby or Adopt a Tree and yet there is no political will to implement it.
She encouraged students to plant trees even in pots.  When asked what environmental projects with sustainable and long term effect will she implement if she will be a school teacher or administrator, she said that she will require the students to bring seedlings and plant it in their school ground.
